Smith Lake Pups Maltese

Maltese puppies are pure sweetness wrapped in a little white cloud, and raising them is truly a joy. Our Maltese puppies are 100% purebred and lovingly raised with a strong focus on health, temperament, and early socialization. These pups are gentle, affectionate, and thrive on close companionship with the people who love them.

The Maltese puppies you see below are still spending their days with us, soaking up love, playtime, and careful attention while completing their veterinary checks. Outside of extenuating circumstances, we expect each puppy to be ready to go home on the pickup dates listed. We take these early weeks seriously, making sure each puppy feels confident, secure, and ready for their next chapter.

Maltese puppies have the softest hearts and the most comforting presence. They form deep bonds with their people and thrive on being close, offering steady love and companionship. Raising them is a rewarding and very special experience.

If you’re considering a Maltese and want to talk through things like home environment, time together, or whether this breed suits your lifestyle, I’d be happy to guide you.

Getting to Know the Maltese

MALTESE - The result of breeding two purebred Maltese Terriors

The Maltese is known for its calm, loving nature and strong attachment to its family. These little dogs have a way of making themselves right at home, often preferring to stay close by and enjoy quiet moments together. They are gentle, attentive, and deeply people-oriented.

Maltese tend to do well with children when treated kindly and thrive in homes where they receive plenty of affection and interaction. Their sweet disposition and devotion make them wonderful companions for families, couples, and individuals alike.

Why Families Love Maltese

(As with any puppy, individual traits can vary, but these characteristics are very common within the breed.)

Maltese are beloved for their loyalty, manageable size, and beautiful, low-shedding coats. Their hair-like coat sheds very little and is often well tolerated by families with allergies. Despite their delicate appearance, Maltese are sturdy little dogs with bright personalities and strong bonds to their owners.

Their small size makes them easy to care for and well-suited for a variety of living environments, including apartments and quieter homes. Maltese are happiest when they are treated as true family members and included in everyday life.

The Maltese Temperment

Maltese are affectionate, gentle, and incredibly devoted. They are not known for aggression and typically display a calm, patient demeanor. While they enjoy playtime, they are equally content cuddling on the couch or resting nearby.

These dogs are intelligent and attentive, responding well to positive reinforcement and gentle guidance. Their desire to please and love for companionship make them a wonderful match for families seeking a devoted lap dog with a soft, loving heart.

Maltese Care & Grooming

Maltese have long, silky hair that requires regular grooming to keep it healthy and comfortable. Weekly brushing helps prevent tangles, and many families choose to keep their Maltese in a shorter “puppy cut” for easier maintenance.

Routine nail trims, ear care, and dental hygiene are also important parts of Maltese care. With consistent grooming and attention, Maltese are relatively easy to maintain and stay feeling their best.

Typical Maltese Coloring

Maltese are known for their beautiful white coats, though some puppies may have slight cream or lemon shading, especially around the ears. As they mature, most Maltese develop the classic bright white coloring the breed is known for.
